A perfect Birthday!

As a child I always dreamed of having a white birthday, but that rarely happened. Well this year, it was my whitest birthday ever! On Friday, we woke up to about 5 inches of snow, it was so pretty. Below are a few pictures of what our place looked like covered in snow as well as some of our critters having fun.

When I got home from work, Jesse had cooked a prime rib and yorkshire pudding, something my dad used to always fix for my birthday dinner, it was very sweet of him! He also made me a chocolate cheesecake, which I love, it was delicious!! All in all, it was a wonderful birthday!

SNOW!!

This week has been very white and very cold! I enjoy having the snow, but it certainly makes my work commute a lot longer. I spent 3 hours in the car on Monday getting to and from work because all of the roads were so icy. The roads have been getting better, but we still have quite a bit of snow on the ground. This picture is blurry but the only one I could get as it was too dark to take any good pictures. Bentley absolutely loves the snow and it has been so hard to get him to come inside once he is out there, it is fun to watch him pick up the snow and throw it around.

Memories from the past…

One of my best memories as a child was being able to go into our garage and choose from an over abundance of canned dill pickles to enjoy all year long. I have always had quite the addiction to dill pickles! We had shelves that I always thought were custom made to hold quart jars, until just recently I found out they used to hold our toys when we were little and eventually made there way to the garage.

Last weekend, Jesse built a couple of shelves that are custom made to hold quart and pint jars. It is so awesome to see all of our hard summer work in one place. It is incredible that we just about filled the whole thing!

We have tomatoes, green beans, dill pickles, sweet pickles, dilly beans, salmon, pears, peaches, apple sauce, salsa, peach butter, plum jelly, fruit leather and various dried fruits and vegetables.

Winter Preparation for the bucks

Jesse added some structure to the buck pen about a month ago to prepare it for the rainy, wintry months ahead. This gives them quite a bit more shelter from the elements.

Crystal’s Triplets…

Well, we have been quite busy recently and I have not blogged as much as I have wanted to. These are Crystal’s kids that were born in October. They were the last set of kids for the year. The buck will be retained and probably be a replacement for his sire. His mom contributes a lot of dairy character, which should make him an improvement on his dad. He is polled like his dad and such a sweet little guy. The 2 girls will be going to their new home in January.

Here is the buck kid, I am still thinking of a name for him.

This is one of the little does, from birth she has always been full of personality and quite curious. When the kids were first born I thought there were only twins, then after a few minutes I noticed a little kid outside of the kidding pen under the ladder to the loft. She was fine and her mom didn’t think twice about taking her back.

We have 3 wonderful dogs and 1 cat that are a big part of our family.

This is Kodi, she will be 14 next week and has been my loyal companion for all of those years. She loves helping with chores and keeping everyone in line around the place. One of her favorite things on the farm are the baby goats, she is very sweet to them and loves to give them kisses.

This is Bentley, he is 4 1/2 and full of life, he is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. We have done a lot of agility in the past and hope to have a spot on the property to practice in the future.

This is Jesse’s dog Melas, he is a black lab, chow cross, with a slight underbite! He is a sweet natured dog that loves to hang out with his Dad.

This is our cat, Monty, he is a Bengal cross with really neat markings. He is a great mouser and loves hanging out with the dogs.

The Sheep get a winter shelter…

Jesse was able to get a shelter built for the sheep and alpaca before the rains really hit. They have already enjoyed having it to get away from the rains.

Our farm is also home to a few sheep, which we purchased from my sister’s farm, Kenleigh Acres, earlier this year. They have done a great job keeping all of our grass mowed down and we will be breeding them each year to raise the lambs for their meat. We have a ram, 3 ewes, and 2 wethers that will be butchered this fall. Our alpaca, Winston, keeps watch over them and the property.

This is Aurelia, one of our ewes, she is 1/2 Blueface Leicester, 1/4 Border Leicester, 1/4 Navajo Churro, she was a bottle baby and is very sweet:

More Salmon!

This is the 3rd salmon that Jesse caught this year. As you can see, it was a very bright, beautiful salmon. All of the salmon he has caught this year have been over 25 pounds and I am still in awe at how big they are! Half of this one was smoked, which is my personal favorite, thanks Dad for the recipe! The other half was canned to add to his winter supply.

He also caught another salmon fishing with an old neighbor, but I didn’t get a picture of it, it was pretty close looking to the one pictured below. He only has 1 more spot on his tag due to new regulations, so hopefully it is a good one!
